OAR Releases Stories of a Stranger

Of A Revolution (OAR) has just released their new album Stories of a Stranger. While OAR has an enormous grass roots following amongst the quarter living, OAR is hoping that their fifth studio album will be the one that propels them into the mainstream. The song Love and Memories, which is featured on their website varies greatly from their classic That Was a Crazy Game of Poker, but it is bound to be a hit anyways. Our favorite is Wonderful Day, it has a new and fresh sound while still true to their roots. Stories of A Stranger can be purchased on iTunes.

Special QLL Note: Insider information reports that OAR will be headlining at Madison Square Garden sometime in December/January. Keep your ears open.

CBGB's Last Hoorah

cgbg_inside.jpgThe walls inside CBGB's are a veritable paper mache history of punk music. Bands like Blondie, The Ramones and The Talking Heads passed through the doors of CBGB's, rocked out on stage, and papered the walls with their posters. The tattered remains of those early posters is a legacy teetering on verge of oblivion: CBGB's is threatened with eviction.

In a nasty lawsuit with the Bowery Residents' Committee over back-rent, CBGB's has one day to get their act together. Their lease expires tomorrow, August 31st and they are scrambling to raise funds.

CGBG_outside.jpgHelp keep CBGB's rocking. Head to Washington Square Park tomorrow for CGBG Forever from 3-7pm to support this cultural icon and listen to bands like Blondie, Chesterfield Kings, Bouncing Souls, The Charms and Institute with Gavin Rossdale. Gothamist has full coverage.

A Meeting of the Libidos: Louis XIV and Ike Reilly Assassination

LouisXIV.jpgNeo-punk band, Louis XIV, is not for the faint of heart - rather the filthy of heart and dirty of mind. On their album The Best Little Secrets are Kept, lead singer Jason Hill sings his way through a litany of women he would like to have sex with (chocolate girl, Asian girl, carrot girl, vanilla girl, Miss Little Smart Girl, tough girl etc.).

"It's no secret, best-kept or otherwise, that glammy hams Louis XIV are hornier than the entire Tijuana Brass Band... it's perhaps the most titillating sexist album cover since Smell The Glove" - Yahoo Music.

In spite of their overhauled irreverence, QLL is a big fan of Louis XIV; favorite songs include "Pledge of Allegiance" and "Louis XIV". Samples can be heard from the Louis XIV jukebox.

And whereas Louis XIV proudly boasts their supposed sexual prowess, the Ike Reilly Assassination takes a rather opposite approach. On the first song of their first major-label debut Ike Reilly Assassination front man, Ike Reilly, belts out about his inability to satisfy his lover.

Ike.jpgIke Reilly, a former cemetery worker and doorman, released a solo album in July 2001. Met with major praise from The New York Times, GQ and Rolling Stone, when the album did not bring in the expected profits, he was subsequently dropped from the label. Considering himself a modern day Willy Lomen, Ike Reilly revived his music career with the start of a new band, ironically dubbed, the Ike Reilly Assassination.

A meeting of the libidos is scheduled to take place this Thursday, September 1st, at Irving Plaza. Ike Reilly Assassination will open for Louis XIV. Perhaps Ike Reilly can get some between-the-sheets tips, from sex-crazed Jason Hill. Regardless of the exchanges, this concert is going to rock.

Tickets are still available on TicketMaster for a quarter-life price: $14.50

DMB @ Randall's Island

Dave Matthews Band's Island Getaway is this weekend on Randall's Island. The all day event will feature special guests Barenaked Ladies on Saturday while Sunday will feature the Black Eyed Peas. Both days include performances by Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Ray LaMontagne and Mike Doughty. Tickets for Saturday are already sold out (but still reasonable on craigslist), but are still available from TicketMaster for Sunday.

Rumor has it the transportation to Randall's Island via the ferry gets extremely crowded, we recommend purchasing tickets in advance to guarantee you get to the show on time.

Thank goodness it looks like the sweltering heat is going to break for the weekend where we should have highs in the low 80s, perfect for an outdoor concert.
